Ludhiana, June 13: A case has been registered under non-bailable sections against Lok Insaaf Party (LIP) MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains on a complaint of manager of Verka Milk plant on Wednesday. The manager alleged Bains for obstructing the government work.
It is the second complaint against LIP president and Ludhiana’s Atam Nagar MLA in less than two months. On Tuesday, Bains visited the plant. He alleged that Verka supplied milk low on fat and Solids Not fat (SNF) than what was printed on packets. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, he also claimed that an annual scam of Rs 200 in the supply of milk by Verka had been going unnoticed in the state.
Bains conducted a surprise visit to the plant along with a private lab technician. He also took samples of milk in presence of plant authorities. “Verka claims on its milk packets that it contains 4.5% fat and 8.5% SNF. Regular testing of their milk was done for over two weeks in the labs of Milkfed in different districts. The milk was found to be low on both these parameters. On Tuesday also, fat quantity in milk was 4.1%, and the SNF was 8%,” Hindustan Times quoted Bains as saying.
He also alleged that Verka is overcharging Rs 5 – Rs 6.5 on every litre of milk it supplies. The MLA also demanded that a case should be registered. He even accused officials of their involvement in the scam. However, General Manager of Verka, Harminder Singh denied the MLA's allegations.
On April 24 also, Bains was booked for trespassing and forceful entry into the Passport Sewa Kendra of Ludhiana. The assistant passport officer filed a complaint.
