Mathura, April 4: In an appalling and disturbing case of medical apathy, a woman was seen carrying her differently-abled husband on her back as they had no access a wheel-chair or a tricycle. As per reports by ANI, the woman carried her husband on her back to the office of the chief medical officer in Mathura to obtain a disability certificate.

Describing her ordeal, the woman said that they had no access to a wheel-chair or a tricycle. She said they had visited many different offices but still have not got the disability certificate for her husband.

In March, what can be termed as medical apathy, two people, who got injured in a railway accident, were seen lying on the bed with their hands and legs tied in AMU’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College. As per reports by ANI, the two patients were seen seeking help, while hospital staff remained missing from the emergency ward.

As per details, the Chief Medical Officer of Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, SAH Zaidi clarified that the patients were tied to the bed as did not have side guards. “They are being treated by senior doctors. Our beds don't have side guards. The patients don't have any relative with them and our staff can also not sit here all the time. So, we have tied them to the bed to stop them from falling.”

In another similar incident, the amputated leg of a road accident victim was allegedly used as a pillow to prop him up on the stretcher at a large government hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Jhansi.

A cellphone footage of the stomach-churning scene got viral on social media while hospital authorities were forced to order an inquiry into the incident. As per details, four staff members of the hospital, including a doctor, a medical official, and two nurses have been suspended pending inquiry.
