Panaji, Mar 26: The Goa Chief Minister's Office warned the supporters and well-wishers of ailing CM Manohar Parrikar against falling prey to rumour messages floating on WhatsApp and other forms of social media.
The CMO's statement on Sunday came in response to a message going viral on social media, which quotes Manohar Parrikar as saying that he "could feel death approaching him".
The CMO said such statements are frivolous and issued by unscrupulous elements. It further added that all information related to Parrikar's health will be updated via the official channels of communication.
"It has been observed that many messages are floating on social media, attributing it to the CM’s authorship. Such messages are not authentic & mischievous. All messages of CM Manohar Parrikar will be communicated directly by him or through his verified social media handles only," said the statement issued on Goa CMO's Facebook handle.
Parrikar is currently in US, where he is being treated for pancreatic cancer at a medical facility in New York.
The four-time Goa CM was first admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital on February 5. On February 21, he took discharge for a day to present the State Budget in Goa Assembly.
After presenting the Budget document, Parrikar was flown back to Mumbai, where he was lodged in the Lilavati Hospital till February 27. Subsequently, he was flown to US on recommendation of the doctors.
Goa Assembly Speaker Pramod Sawant claimed to have spoken to Parrikar on Sunday. While speaking to reporters, he said Parrikar's treatment would conclude within the next three days. However, he would get discharge two weeks later, Sawant added.
