Mumbai, April 25: A month after WhatsApp messages claiming to be a note written by Goa CM Manohar Parrikar went viral, similar written messages surfaced on micro-blogging site Twitter. In the fake written note, the ailing Goa CM purportedly contemplates death. The hoax message on Twitter says that he could "feel death approaching him", in spite of the assurances given by the doctors.
Supporters and well-wishers of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar were struck with shock over the letter. However, The Chief Minister’s Office said on Sunday that a letter of repentance purportedly written by ailing Goa CM Manohar Parrikar and circulated on social media is “mischievous” and “not authentic”.
“It has been observed that many messages are floating on social media, attributing it to the CM’s authorship. Such messages are not authentic and mischievous. All messages of CM @manoharparrikar will be communicated directly by him or through his verified social media handles only,” the CMO said in a statement issued on Sunday.

Following a backlash, one of the above tweets was removed. According to tweets available, the fake letter appears to be styled after a hoax letter, circulated soon after Apple co-founder Steve Jobs’s demise in 2011, went viral on the social media.
To recall, on February 15, Parrikar was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai after complains of stomach pain. He was later shifted to a New York-based medical facility, where he is being treated for a pancreatic ailment. Parrikar will begin his second phase of treatment at a hospital in US from Monday, assembly speaker Pramod Sawant said on Sunday.
Parrikar's personal secretary Rupesh Kamat, while speaking to the press on Wednesday, said Parrikar is "responding well to the treatment". The CMO has maintained that Parrikar is suffering from “mild pancreatitis” and is responding well to treatment.
In his absence, the government is being spearheaded by a committee comprising of Sudin Dhavalikar (of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party), Francis D'Souza (of the BJP) and Vijai Sardesai (of the Goa Forward Party). We wish his speedy recovery and hope not to see such fake news doing rounds.
