Manipur Witnesses Heavy Downpour for Third Consecutive Day, Assam Hit by Rains Too
The rains started on Monday and it has kept raining since making rivers overflow resulting in water logging. The Imphal and Nambul rivers are flowing above their capacity due to the incessant rains.
Imphal, June 13: Heavy rains continue to make their impact and disrupt normal life in Manipur as the government declared holidays for schools and offices. The holiday is also applicable for the private sector, and most parts of the capital city Imphal has been hit by the heavy rains. Assam has been hit by heavy rains too with parts of the state submerged in floods.
The rains started on Monday and it has kept raining since making rivers overflow resulting in water logging. The Imphal and Nambul rivers are flowing above their capacity due to the incessant rains.
Residential areas including the VIP colonies which house the chief secretary of Manipur, DGP Manipur and other bureaucrats in Imphal East district according to a report in The Indian Express.
The flooding has resulted in the suspension of the Radio service of the All India Radio (AIR) as the AIR building was also hit by the floods.
State transportation has also come to a halt and businesses have been hit as Nambul river crossed over its banks and flooded the roads.
The parts most hit by the floods are the areas and districts in Imphal East as the rivers continue to overflow in the district according to Irrigation and Flood Control Department(IFCD).
Jiribam received 147 mm of rainfall, Kangpokpi received 75 mm Saikul got 47 mm of rainfall Reports of landslide emerged from parts of hill districts. The state government has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next two days with the dangers of landslides.
