Doctors at J J Hospital performed a complex surgery to save life of a 33-year-old man after a four-feet long iron rod speared from the groin and exited near the neck. While working at a construction site on March 8, Naseem Sheikh, a labourer from Nashik, slipped and fell on the iron rod that was jutting out of concrete pillars. The rod entered his body through the groin, piercing his intestines, liver, abdomen and chest before coming out of the back.
His co-workers cut the rod to detach him from the pillar. Sheikh’s family hired a private ambulance for the 200-km journey to Mumbai. A team of doctors performed a complex five-hour long surgery at J J Hospital and successfully removed the iron rod. Dr Ajay Bhandarwar, who was part of the team which removed the rod last Friday said, open and laproscopic techniques were used in the surgery. Here are some other unbelievable accidents where people survived.
Naseem survived the grieving injuries and the horrific accident. Hopefully he should have a speedy recovery.
