Budgam, May 23: Major Leetul Gogoi is again in news after he was detained by Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday in a hotel room allegedly along with a teenage girl. According to News agency ANI, police Station Khanyar received a call from a hotel that an altercation had taken place after a woman from Budgam, who had come to see an army major at the hotel. The girl was not allowed to meet the officer. Inspector General of Jammu and Kashmir Police SP Pani has ordered a probe into the incident.

According to a police statement, they got a call from the Hotel Grand Mamta after an altercation. DNA reported citing police statement, “A police party was deputed to the hotel and it surfaced that a woman (name withheld) and a man identified as Sameer Ahmed of Budgam had come to see some person.” According to the report, the hotel reception did not allow them to meet the officer. After recording a statement of Major Gogoi he was handed over to his unit.

Major Leetul Gogoi was in the news last year for tying a local Kashmiri Farooq Ahmed Dar to a bonnet of his vehicle in Budgam district during a stone-pelting incident. Major joined The Indian Army as a non-commissioned officer. After clearing Services Selection Board interview he joined the Dehradun-based Army Cadet College (ACC) to become a commissioned officer in December 2008.
