Mumbai, May 8: In a shocking incident, four female aspirants who had come to Mumbai to seek recruitment in  the police force at Vikhroli Police camp were severely injured after a speeding car ran over them. The driver of the car has been arrested by the Vikhroli Police while an investigation into the matter is underway.

According to initial reports, the four women who have been injured in the accident have been identified as Kajal Karade, Deepali Kale, Chitrali Pange, Chaitali Dirge, all from Pune Shirur city. All the injured ones have been admitted to the nearby government-run Mahatma Phule hospital. As per details by Doctors, their condition is said to be critical.

All four women are from same Shirur's Shirole Police training academy and after giving the physical test 'running' one of the mandatory requirements before joining the police force, were returning to Vikhroli railway station when a speeding car hit them at around 11 am today on Vikhroli eastern express highway.

Every year, the Maharashtra Home Department throws open the opportunities for aspirants who wish to join the police force. Though aspirants come with high hopes,  it seems government fails to provide facilities and proper arrangements to aspirants, who were also made to stand in the scorching heat. Media has reported such incidents of callousness before.

Unfortunately, the sad saga continues and no steps have been taken by the state government so far. According to a news report in Midday, several female aspirants who had come to Marol police camp to take part in the ongoing police recruitment process where forced to sleep in an open space, putting their safety at stake.

The father of one of the aspirants was quoted as saying, "We never thought basic facilities would not be provided in a city like Mumbai. We are scared to sleep on the road, as the area is close to the forest."

While another candidate said, "It would have been really nice if the authorities provided us with some basic facilities. It's difficult for most of us to stay in hotels, as we come from poor family backgrounds. We have been forced to sleep in the open."
