Bhopal, March 30: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday raised the retirement age of state government employees from 60 to 62 years. It must be noted that the current age of retirement is 60 years.

While addressing the media on Friday, Chouhan stated that the general category government employees did not get a chance of promotion due to a reservation in promotions. “It is right of every employee to get promoted as per seniority. To ensure this, the age of retirement has increased," Chouhan added.

The Chief Minister also said there have been cases where an employee retires without getting due promotions. As per reports the raising of age of state government employees was taken up by the government in 2013. The Chief Minister had said earlier that the state government would consider raising the age of retirement of state government employees from the current 60 years to 62.

In 2013, when Chouhan was asked whether the issue was under consideration of the State government, in view of the Chhattisgarh government recently increased the age of retirement to 62 years from 60 for its employees, Chouhan had said, “We will consider the matter”.

“Madhya Pradesh will consider such issues in its own manner and will not follow what other States are doing on the matter,” the Chief Minister said during his ongoing Jan Ashirwad Yatra in the State’s newly created Agar—Malwa district.  It must be noted that in August 2013, the Chhattisgarh government had decided to raise the retirement age of state employees from 60 years to 62 years.

Talking about the safety of women, the Chief Minister on Friday said that his government's priority is to provide security to women. While speaking at an event organised for creating awareness about women's safety and security, Chauhan said, his government has zero-tolerance for crimes against women. He further added saying that there are no human rights for anti-social elements, justifying the police parading criminals in public.
