Bhopal, November 1: Today is the 63rd foundation day of Madhya Pradesh. The state was formed on November 1, 1956, and according to a report on All India Radio News, the two-day celebrations in the state will be a low key affair this year due to assembly elections. The theme for the celebrations this time is the rich heritage of the state and all performances will revolve around folk and classical performances. Other than MP, this day also marks the foundation day of other Indian states, namely Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, and Haryana. November 1 is State Formation Day for Seven Indian States: Know Why and How Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Punjab, Haryana and Chhattisgarh Formed.
Reportedly, classical singer Pandit Chhannulal Mishra, flautist Pandit Rajendra Prasanna and folk singer Mura Lala have been invited for the event. Folk dances including Dhimariya, Badhai, Naurata, Akhada, Matki and Gudumbajan will be the major attraction of the foundation day events.
Madhya Pradesh is the second-largest Indian state in size with an area of 3 Lakh 8 thousand sq. km. It is also the fifth largest state by population with over 75 million residents.

MP borders the states of Uttar Pradesh to the northeast, Chhattisgarh to the southeast, Maharashtra to the south, Gujarat to the west, and Rajasthan to the northwest. After India's independence, the state of MP was created with Nagpur as its capital. Eventually, Bhopal became the capital of the state.
