Lucknow, May 11: In a bid to show the world that women are not behind men in any field, an 18-year-old girl from Lucknow is all set to summit Mount Jogin in Gangotri region of Uttarakhand. Poorva Dhawan is all geared up for her upcoming tour to the Gangotri region in the hill state to give a major fillip to  government's Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign.

Ahead of embarking on her visit, Poorva met the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and said, 'I want to give a message that girls can achieve anything.'

It must be noted that Poorva is undertaking this expedition to promote 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao'. Earlier in April, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) 2nd topper Anu Kumari (31) became the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ brand ambassador in Sonipat district. Haryana urban local bodies minister Kavita Jain has named Anu Kumari (31), the mother of a four-year-old, who secured the second rank in UPSC) as the brand ambassador for the campaign. “Anu Kumari’s achievement has given a befitting reply to people who have killed their daughters in the womb. Anu has emerged as an inspiration and can change the mindset of such people,” said the minister.

In another similar act of pride, in a first, Indian Navy’s all women crew embarked on a journey to circumnavigate the globe on INSV Tarini. The expedition is being covered in five legs, with stop-overs at four ports: Fremantle in Australia, Lyttelton in New Zealand, Port Stanley in Falklands and Cape Town in South Africa.

The first such expedition by the Indian Navy, 'Navika Sagar Parikrama', was flagged off after a ceremony at the INS Mandovi Boat Pool near Goa. The historic tour will see six-member women crew circumnavigate the globe on an India-built sailboat, INSV Tarini, which is being skippered by Lt Commander Vartika Joshi.

Expressing her satisfaction, Defence Minister Sitharaman said, "This is not an occasion which happens once in five years or once in 10 years. It's a historic day for India and its navigation history. Globally, I think our women stand out for doing something which most navies haven't even thought of."
