The Union Cabinet on Saturday approved an ordinance to amend the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act at its meeting in New Delhi. The ordinance recommends the death penalty for rapists of children below 12 years of age. On Friday, the Centre had informed the Supreme Court, during the hearing in a PIL, that it was working on bringing changes in the POCSO Act to include capital punishment for rapists.

New Delhi, April 21: The fallout of Supreme Court's verdict in Justice BH Loya death case followed by the subsequent impeachment motion moved by the Opposition against Chief Justice of India Deepak Misra is likely to dominate the course of news over the weekend.

In other news, the brutal gangrape-murder case in Surat involving an 11-year-old minor made headway as the police on Friday held three men who are suspected to have "bought" the girl from neighbouring Rajasthan at a price of Rs 30,000. Gujarat Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja said top officers have been deputed to solve the case as the matter has "shaken the conscience of the entire state".

Meanwhile, the sporting action will escalate over the weekend as two matches of the Indian Premier League will be played today. In the first encounter, slated to begin at 4 pm, the Kolkata Knight Riders will be pitted against the King's XI Punjab, followed by the second bout at 8 pm between the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the Delhi Daredevils.
