List of Ceasefire Violation at LOC During Ramzan 2018; ADG Border Security Force Gives Stern Warning to Pakistan as Firing Continues

Jammu, June 13: Additional Director General  (ADG) of Border Security Force (BSF), Jammu Frontier, Kamal Nath Choubey has slammed Pakistan over continuous ceasefire violations along the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB). Giving a stern warning to Pakistan, Choubey said, “We are always prepared, ceasefire or no ceasefire there is no letup in border surveillance. Every instrument required to protect the territorial integrity of the border is maintained.” He also blamed Pakistan for violating the ceasefire. The ADG said that ceasefire was always a bilateral decision, we had always maintained the sanctity of ceasefire, but Pakistan had violated it.

The ADG was addressing the media after fresh ceasefire violation y Pakistan on Tuesday night in Chambliyal sector of Samba district along the international border in which four BSP personnel lost their lives including an assistant commandant. Three BSF jawans were also injured in the unprovoked firing by Pakistan Rangers. The injured have been evacuated to Government Medical College, Jammu.

Ceasefire violation by Pakistan rangers across the LoC and IB has not stopped even during the month of Ramzan. Many people have fled their homes in Jammu, Kathua and Samba sectors last month because of the heavy shelling by Pakistan troops. Here are the major ceasefire incidents during the holy month of Ramzan:

1)    May 17: Pakistan violated ceasefire along the LoC in Samba and Hiranagar sectors of Jammu and Kashmir. The firing started at late night of May 16. This comes a day after the Centre announced Ramzan ceasefire in the valley.

2)    May 18: In an unprovoked firing by Pakistan troops along the IB in R S Pura sector of Jammu, BSF constable Sitaram Upadhyay lost his life.

3)    May 20: An army jawan sustained injuries in a ceasefire violation along the LoC in Nowshera sector. Indian security forces gave befitting reply.

4)    May 21: Pakistani Rangers fired mortar shells on border outposts at several places in Jammu and Kashmir's Arnia sector. In retaliation BSF troops destroyed Pakistani picket across the order. No casualties reported.

5)    May 22: In a major ceasefire incident thirteen civilians were injured in an unprovoked firing by Pakistan in Arnia, RS Pura and Ramgarh sectors. The firing continued for two days. An eight-year-old child was also killed in the firing. Additional deputy commissioner, Jammu, Arjun Manhas, 745people were shifted to shelter camps because of the heavy firing.

6)    May 23: Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector in Jammu and Kashmir on the night of May 22. No casualties reported in this violation.

7)    June 3: two BSF men were martyred in Pakistani sniper fire around 2:15 am in Pargwal sector of Akhnoor.  According to reports, At least 10 BSF posts and 35 villages were being targeted by the Pakistani forces. 12 civilians were also reported injured in this ceasefire violation.

8)    June 5: Just few hours after the flag meeting held at Octroi post in RS Pura sector, Pakistani troops violated ceasefire in Akhnoor sector. However, no one was killed in the firing.

9)    June 13: Four BSF personnel were martyred in ceasefire violation in Chambliyal sector of Samba, Three BSF jawans were also injured.

The Ministry of External Affairs had also slammed Pakistan on Thursday  for not following the 2003 ceasefire agreement. According to a statement issued by the ministry, there have been over 1000 ceasefire violation incidents by Pakistan. On May 29, a hotline was established between Directorate Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) of both the nations. It was agreed to follow 2003 ceasefire agreement, but Pakistani Rangers violated ceasefire within few days.
