Patna, May 11: The Ranchi High Court on Friday granted six weeks provisional bail to former Bihar Chief Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on medical grounds. Earlier this week, Lalu had got three-days parole instead of the five days to attend the wedding of his elder son Tej Pratap Yadav.
The 69-year old Chief has been serving jail term in Birsa Munda Jail in Ranchi since December 23, 2017, in Jharkhand after being convicted in the Fodder Scam. Currently, the RJD Supremo is undergoing treatment at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi.
It must be noted that Lalu's Son's wedding is scheduled on May 12 in Patna. Celebrations have begun and are in full swing The engagement ceremony was on April 18. Lalu's son, Tej Pratap Yadav, will be tying the knot with Aishwarya Rai, who is the grand-daughter of former Bihar Chief minister Daroga Rai and daughter of senior RJD legislator Chandrika Rai.
In March, a Special CBI Court in Ranchi, which convicted RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav in the fourth fodder scam earlier, pronounced two separate jail terms of seven years each.
The bench headed by Special Judge Shiv Pal Singh also imposed a fine of Rs 30 lakh each, based upon his conviction under the separate provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Prevention of Corruption Act. The fourth fodder scam case is linked to the fraudulent withdrawals from Dumka treasury from December 1995 to January 1996, amounting to Rs 3.18 crore.
