Mumbai, June 6: The Konkan Railway Corporation Limited has made preparations for the Monsoon season and is gearing up to tackle issues arising out of rains in the region. Konkan Railway has completed the monsoon preparatory work on its route from Kolad (after Roha station of the Central Railway) to Thokur (before Mangalore station).
Konkan Railway has experienced major problems during monsoon in the past five years. To ensure proper safety this time, the loco pilots (train drivers) have been given mobile phones and walkie-talkies to stay updated and receive monsoon updates uninterrupted.
As a result of the large scale geo-safety works executed along the railway line in last decade and more, incidences of boulder fall and soil slip have significantly reduced, said Konkan Railways in a press statement. About 770 personnel have been deployed for patrolling on the Konkan rail route during monsoons.
Meanwhile, loco pilots have been instructed to run trains at a reduced speed of 40 kmph in case of heavy rainfall and reduced visibility. Three control rooms at Belapur, Ratnagiri and Madgaon will run 24x7 during monsoon.
