Mumbai, March 12: The Central Railway will run two special trains from Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station (CSMT) to Bhusawal at 8.50 pm and 10.00 pm on Monday. The special trains have been pressed into service to send the agitating farmers back who have been protesting for a week now for their long-pending demands.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that the state government has accepted most of the demands in a written letter. Fadnavis, while speaking to farmers, has said that their demands will be met in a timely manner. While issuing a written response to the AIKS delegation, the state government presented a timeline to accept most of the demands, except the "complete waiver" of agrarian loans and electricity bills.
Over 35,000 farmers from across Maharashtra embarked on a `Long March' from Nashik on March 6 to press their various demands. The week-long protest was called off after the farmers reached an agreement with the Devendra Fadnavis government.
The Chief Minister said that his government was "sensitive and positive" towards the demands of farmers and tribals, who marched from Nashik to Mumbai to draw the administration's attention towards their problems. The state government of Maharashtra has given written assurances that it would address their grievances within the next two months. As per reports by PTI, the decision was taken after the meeting between a 12-member delegation of farmers with the six-member committee formed by the state government.
Girish Mahajan, Maharashtra Minister of Water Resources said, “We've had a positive meeting with farmers in which all their demands were discussed. They had around 12-13 demands out of which we've accepted some & will be giving them a written draft of it. I think they're satisfied with our decisions”.
Meanwhile, Vishnu Savara, Minister Of Tribal Development of Maharashtra said the Chief Minister has agreed to fulfil their demands. Chief Secretary will follow-up on this & implementation will start in 6 months. “Farmers ki shikayat hai ki jo humari zameen hai us se kum unke naam par hai, toh jitni bhi zameen woh cultivate kar rahe hain woh unke naam par honi chahiye”. Savra added.
A delegation of farmers has reached the Maharashtra Assembly to participate in the high-level meeting on Monday where the farmers put forward their demands. "A positive decision will be taken. A timeline will be decided on the demands put forth by the farmers. The representatives of the farmers have been invited for a discussion at 1 pm today," CM Fadnavis had said in the morning.
