Patiala, April 18: Khalistan Liberation Force chief Harminder Singh Mintoo died on Wednesday afternoon after he suffered a massive cardiac arrest in Patiala’s central jail. Punjab Police Inspector General A S Rai said, “We received information from the jail authorities, following which elaborate security arrangements have been made around the hospital.” Mintoo was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead by doctors around 4pm.

The 50-year-old Khalistani extremist was arrested by the Punjab Police in November 2014 from the Indira Gandhi International airport in Delhi. Mintoo was facing criminal and terror charges. According to media reports Mintoo had connections with Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agents.

In November 2016, Mintoo and other five gangsters escaped from the Nabha jail. He was re-arrested a day later from Delhi’s Nizamuddin Railway Station.
