Bengaluru, May 09: Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar informed that two persons were arrested in the ongoing case of fake Voter Identity cards that were found, in bundles, lying in a flat in Rajarajeshwari (RR) Nagar constituency in Bengaluru North. Sanjiv Kumar said, "This is a very serious matter. Two persons have been arrested currently. There lies a possibility that more arrests will be made. The (Fake Voter ID Cards) case is currently being investigated."

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation comprising of Union Ministers – Smriti Irani, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, JP Nadda and Dharmendra Prasad – were scheduled to meet the Election Commission (EC), today, at 6 pm. The high-level delegation was to meet the EC over the issue of 9,476 Voter Identity Cards being found in a flat in Rajarajeshwari (RR) Nagar constituency in Bengaluru North.

A night earlier, the Chief Electoral Officer Sanjiv Kumar called for an emergency press meeting in the night at 12.30 am. The Press and public at large were then informed that a lady, Manjula Nanjamari, was the owner of the flat where Voter ID cards were found.

Later, then it was further revealed by the Congress party spokesperson, Randeep Surjewala, that the Manjula was a BJP Corporator from the year 1997 to 2002. However, the BJP was quick to downplay the comment as party spokesperson Sambit Patra clarified that she was a BJP Corporator earlier, but for the past 15 years, she has no links with the party. Also, there should be an investigation into the matter and the elections in Rajarajeshwari Nagar constituency should be countermanded.

Earlier, Karnataka Assembly Elections 2018 saw an eventful turn of events on May 9, where over 10,000 Voter Identity Cards were found lying in a flat in Bengaluru. Both, Indian National Congress (INC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) were quick to blame each other, alleging that it was the other side which was a culprit in the ongoing issue.
