Mumbai, January 29: A Mumbai Court on Monday sent Kamala Mills owner Ramesh Govani and Mojo's Bistro waiter Sayeed Ali to judicial custody till February 12. Meanwhile, hukkah supplier Utkarsh Pandey has been sent to judicial custody till January 31. As per details by ANI, the bail pleas of the three will be heard on January 31.
Govani- the owner of the Kamala Mills compound in Lower Parel was arrested by the Mumbai Police on January 22 in connection with the fire in resto-pubs in the complex that killed 14 people on December 29, 2017. The Bhoiwada Court had sent Kamala Mills owner Ramesh Govani to police custody till January 29 in this connection. In the last week, a Mumbai Court rejected the bail applications of all five accused in connection with the Kamala Mills fire case.
Earlier in the month, families of two people who lost their lives in the fire strongly opposed the granting of bail to the five accused – Yug Tuli, Yug Pathak, Abhijit Mankar, Jigar Sanghvi and Kripesh Sanghvi – by a Mumbai court. With Yug Tuli’s arrest earlier this month, all the owners of the Mojo’s Bistro and ‘1 Above’ were arrested. As per reports, the blaze in the Kamala Mills compound started because of flying charcoal embers from hookah which was illegally served at Mojo's Bistro, which then spread to 1 Above.
Besides all the accused, four others and hotelier Vishal Karia was also arrested but later released on bail on charges of aiding and sheltering the absconding accused owners. Karia was booked under Section 216 of the Indian Penal Code for harbouring an offender after the police found an Audi car belonging to prime accused Mankar, co-owner of the 1Above pub, at his residence.
