Mumbai, January 19: Weeks after the deadly Kamala Mills Fire incident, an inquiry report by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday claimed that the massive fire on December 29, that claimed lives of 14 people was triggered from Mojo's Bistro. The BMC in its report confirmed the theory that flying embers from hookah served illegally at Mojo's Bistro spread rapidly to ‘1 Above’ restaurant.

A departmental inquiry against 10 municipal officials has been ordered by the BMC and has sought three months’ time to conduct a detailed survey of the compound to investigate the misuse of the floor space index (FSI) incentives.

As per reports by ANI, Mojo’s Bistro had partially unauthorisedly covered their terrace and used all kinds of combustible materials for the construction of the same. The fire then spread to the 1-Above restaurant,  which also had very flammable materials and caught fire immediately from the Mojo’s Bistro restaurant’s common wall side.  The BMC report held the owner of Kamala Mills “equally responsible” for not taking fire safety precautions.

The BMC report further states that criminal action against the architect and interior designers of the two restaurants has been recommended by the local body. The report said, “they acted unprofessionally and have not shown any diligence in the construction of such dangerous unauthorised structure and the materials used for the same.”

Earlier this week, all the four accused have been sent to Judicial custody until 31st January by the Bhoiwada Court. The four accused include -Yug Pathak, Jigar Sanghvi, Kripesh Sanghvi and Abhijit Mankar.  In the December 29 fire at Mumbai’s Kamala Mills, 14 persons died, most of them at the roof-top `1 Above' pub next to Mojo's Bistro.  The BMC report has been handed over to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and will later be submitted in the Bombay High Court.
