Bandipora, June 14: One army personnel has been martyred and two terrorists have been killed during an ongoing operation in Bandipora's Panar forest area in Jammu and Kashmir. Defence Ministry spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia told IANS, "Two terrorists and a soldier were killed in the ongoing operation in Panar forest area." The entire area has been cordoned off and search operations are underway.
The operation was launched last week following a firefight between terrorists and security. Since then the intermittent firing between the two sides has been going on. According to reports, a group of 18 militants had infiltrated through Gurez sector last week.
The Centre has suspended all military operations in the Kashmir Valley as a goodwill gesture during the month of Ramzan, but terrorist attacks have not decreased during this period. Incident of snatching weapons from the forces and grenade attacks on security forces are on the rise. According to data provided by South Asia Terrorism Portal, till now 37 security forces personnel have lost their lives in 2018, whereas 93 terrorists have been killed.
