New Delhi, June 16: Indian Railways' ambitious plan of live streaming the base kitchen activity of the Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) may face delays. According a report in Outlook India quoting IRCTC Chairman and MD Mahendra Pratap Mall said that the plan is unlikely to be executed this fiscal.
“For the moment, the IRCTC has decided to invite a select group of passengers each day to visit the base kitchens at the boarding, deboarding stations, or even at midway stations,” Mall said as quoted by Outlook.
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal’s grand plan to live-stream IRCTC base kitchen activities was reportedly supposed to be active by July this year. The plan came after multiple complaints against hygiene and poor food quality on trains in the country.
Goyal reportedly said that CCTV cameras will be installed in all base kitchens of IRCTC and the same will be live streamed for passengers via the IRCTC website and app. According to reports, IRCTC is developing a module driven by Artificial Intelligence (AI) vision detection system that analyses the camera footage and identifies issues in the Standard Operating Procedure. The contractor would receive an alert if the system detects anything that is not being done as per SOP.
IRCTC operates around 200 base kitchens out of which CCTV cameras have been installed in 16 while the process of installing cameras in other kitchens is on.
