IPL Betting Case Update: Actor Arbaaz Khan Admits to Betting in IPL, Total 6 Accused Arrested So Far in Betting Racket

The official informed that Arbaaz Khan's name came up in the case during Sonu Jalan's interrogation. The DCP informed that some new names have cropped up and action will be taken against them.

Mumbai, June 2: Bollywood actor and filmmaker Arbaaz Khan on Saturday recorded his statement before the Thane police in connection with an alleged IPL betting racket. As per Police reports, the 50-year old actor admitted that he used to place bets during Indian Premier League or IPL matches.

Khan, who appeared before the Thane Police for interrogation today, confessed that he lost Rs 2.75 crore in the same, as per sources. Meanwhile, bookie Sonu Jalan's police custody extended till June 6.

Pradeep Sharma, Investigating Officer on IPL betting case was quoted by ANI saying that they have recorded Arbaaz Khan's statement today & he cooperated with them. "I can not divulge the details. We will call him again if needed", he added.

According to Abhishek Trimukhe, DCP (Crime), six accused have been arrested in IPL betting racket. The official informed that Arbaaz Khan's name came up in the case during Sonu Jalan's interrogation. The DCP informed that some new names have cropped up and action will be taken against them.

The Thane Police on Friday issued summons to the 50- year-old actor for recording his statement today in connection with the betting racket. According to a report by PTI, Arbaaz reached the office of the Thane Police's Anti-Extortion Cell (AEC) for recording his statement on Saturday.

In a letter sent to Arbaaz, the police asked him to join the probe in the wake of the arrest of an alleged bookie who was placing bets on the recently-concluded Indian Premier League (IPL), a police official had said.

To recall, the AEC on May 15 busted the racket with the arrest of four people in Mumbai. The arrest included Sonu Jalan alias Sonu Malad, who is believed to be one of the top bookies of the country, officials have said. It must be noted that a connection between Jalan and Arbaaz was established during the investigation.

Reports state that Arbaaz allegedly lost Rs 2.80 crore in betting to Jalan and was not paying the amount. After this, the bookie had reportedly threatened the actor citing the interrogation of the arrested accused. According to a report by PTI, Jalan allegedly ran his betting racket from Dombivli in Thane district of the state. The racket was busted by the AEC on May 15, and Jalan and three others were arrested. Jalan had been arrested for betting on IPL matches by the Mumbai crime branch in 2012 too, the official added.
