The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to grant anticipatory bail to Karti Chidambaram, son of former finance minister P Chidambaram, in the INX Media money laundering case.

Deferring the case for further hearing on March 9, the Apex court declared that it will not provide any interim protection from arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the alleged money laundering case.

Reports suggest that if CBI fails to get the further custody of Karti, ED may arrest him to interrogate in the INX Media money laundering case.

CBI had arrested Karti on February 28 and was given custody till March 6. As per reports, CBI will seek 8-day custody for further investigation. During this period, the investigating body confronted Karti Chidambaram with former INX Media Director Indrani Mukerjea who has allegedly made a confession that she had paid a bribe to Karti Chidambaram.

He was taken to the Byculla Central Jail on Sunday for questioning in the bribery case by CBI.
