New Delhi, April 27: IndiGo president Aditya Ghosh on Friday announced his resignation. With his exit, the board has appointed Rahul Bhatia, the carrier's co-founder and incumbent non-executive director, as the interim chief executive officer.

"It has been a relentless, exhilarating and most satisfying  task to build IndiGo as a brand. It is now time for me to walk off the treadmill," said the statement issued by Ghosh. "I will embark on my next adventure in the future," he added.

Ghosh has served as the president of InterGlobe Aviation Limited - the parent firm of IndiGo, since August 2008. He had joined the IndiGo board on May 30, 2007.

Although he has cited personal reasons to quit the top post, IndiGo sources claim he was "asked to quit" due to the spree of technical snag incidents.

Although Ghosh has stepped down from the chair, he would remain associated with IndiGo till July 31, 2018. Bhatia, who has been appointed as the interim CEO, will continue to discharge his role as the non-executive director as well.

According to reports, IndiGo is mulling over appointing Gregory Taylor, the former executive-vice president of the company's revenue management and network departments, as the next president and CEO. Taylor, with over 40 years of experience, is considered to be the most eligible candidate as of now, IndiGo sources were reported as saying.
