New Delhi, March 6: The Indian Railways is now exploring the possibility of providing bio degradable sanitary pads in 8,000 railway stations across the country to address basic hygiene needs of female travellers. The campaign aims at ensuring that every woman of the nation can have access to sanitary pads. While speaking on the Economic Philosophy of Deendayal Upadhyaya, Union Minister of Railways and Coal Piyush Goyal on Monday stated that the railways is exploring the possibility for the same across all Indian Railway station.

The Rail Ministry has comprehensively revised categories of various Railway Stations with a view to making it more practical and rational. For passenger amenities, the Ministry of Railways has improved stations and passenger interfaces. Waiting halls, Platform shelters, Lifts, Escalators, Digital charts display, Illumination, the train/coach indication board have all been set up at various railway stations. In view of the new criteria, even the small station will get the higher level of amenities which will lead to better passenger satisfaction.

As per reports by TOI, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of installing sanitary napkin vending machines at airports across the nation. The first machine was installed at Indore Airport in October 2017 and since then several airports in Kolkata, Jaipur, Bhubaneswar, Port Blair, Trivandrum, Vishakhapatnam, Vadodara, Pune, Guwahati, Varanasi and Surat have already got these machines.

AAI chief Guruprasad Mohapatra was quoted by TOI saying that installation of sanitary napkin vending machines is a small step towards ensuring comfort for female air travellers. “It is our responsibility to address basic hygiene-related needs”, he added.
