New Delhi, August 1: The Indian Army is on a hiring spree and is calling out to engineering graduates to enroll in its training programme for a stipend of Rs 51,600. According to a report by the Economic Times, the Army has invited applications from unmarried men and women engineering graduates. Also, widows of defence personnel can apply for a grant of Short Service Commission (SSC) in all arms/services.
It must be noted that the course will begin in April 2019 at Officers Training Academy in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The total number of vacancies are 191 while the duration of the course is believed to be 49 weeks, which is nearly over 11 months.
The report further informs that the government of India will bear all the expenses of the training programme while the cadets would get a fixed stipend of Rs 51,600. The last date to apply for the Indian Army’s training programme is August 9.
Age Limit:
The age limit of applicants to avail the Indian Army's training programme is:
- For SSC (T)-52 Men and SSCW (T) 23 Women - 20 to 27 years
- For widows of defence personnel- A maximum of 35 years
Who can Apply
The candidates who have passed the Engineering Degree course or are in the final year of Engineering Degree course are eligible to apply. For widows of defence personnel, SSCW (Non-Tech) (Non-UPSC)- Graduation in any discipline or SSCW (Tech)- BE/B Tech In any Engineering stream is required.

The rules say that candidates also cannot marry during the course. For Widows of Defence Personnel who had died in harness, including those with children will be eligible to apply provided they have not remarried.
According to details, the candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of the applications submitted. The candidates who will be shortlisted will be intimated via email. It must be noted that candidates will be put through two-stage selection procedure at the SSB and those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II.
The report further informs that the duration of SSB interviews is five days and candidates will also have to undergo a medical examination before being a part of the training programme.
