New Delhi, July 25: The Indian Army along with fighting the enemy off the borders has to secure their own safety in the changing weather conditions from time to time. The weather conditions can turn extreme and thus the bunkers have to be revamped. Now the army has upgraded its bunker sections to Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) to sustain the temperature changes.

The new FRP bunkers are made up of fibre, plastic and other materials which can keep the temperatures warm on the inside, as opposed to the extreme coolness outside. These bunkers are designed in a manner that they can sustain temperatures falling below -40 degrees. Along with being temperature resistant, they also have designed sleeping bags. Good quality rations are also provided in one corner of these bunkers.

The standard army revamping also includes bulletproof materials for designing jackets and vehicles. The army also adopts homegrown solutions. Some of the Army bunkers were constructed using stones, mud and logs but the longevity of these was a problem considering the extreme weather. The other kind of bunkers were made of steel which was a problem to carry in the high-altitude areas. The maintenance of these was also a problem. These issues were raised in the Compendium of Problem Statements earlier this month. They had also made a demand for bunkers which are modular in nature so they would be adjusted to the direction of fire. These new bunkers are definitely useful especially in areas of low temperature.
