The report further informs that three boys complained that they were inappropriately touched in hostels and been made to feel uncomfortable. Mukherji informed that students have been complaining about the assault through friends of friends.
Mumbai, June 19: The increasing number of sexual assault incidences in Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) has prompted students to write anonymous letters to the administration, seeking strict action. Reports reveal that male students of IIT-B are repeatedly being harassed sexually by a senior student in the campus. To stop the rising number of such incidences, students have written anonymous letters to the authority.
According to a report by Free Press Journal, students have complained that the administration has not approached the police as these complaints remain unsourced. In the last week, students wrote letters to Dean of Student Affairs (DOSA) via social media describing their ordeal. The report informs that there have been complaints of sexual harassment in the campus and hostels since March this year.
The FPJ report quotes Soumyo Mukherji, DOSA of IIT-B, saying that the administration has received anonymous complaints in March and now again in the last week. The report further informs that three boys complained that they were inappropriately touched in hostels and been made to feel uncomfortable. Mukherji informed that students have been complaining about the assault through friends of friends.
The report cites a specific complaint where a senior student has reported touching male students inappropriately and making them feel uncomfortable in hostel rooms. The report quoted a former students tweet which read, “Sexual harassment complaints from students of IIT Bombay are being pushed under the carpet. Please investigate and take action.”
As per details by the administration, the senior student, who has been harassing students in the campus, is a former student of IIT-B. Mukherji said an investigation was initiated in March after the complaints were received, but now, as these complaints are anonymous, the IIT-B administration has not approached the police and no action can be taken.
