Hyderabad, February 2: In a gruesome incident that has been reported from Hyderabad, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped inside a cinema hall on Monday. As per reports, the Hyderabad police has arrested the accused. The Police has also initiated action against the owner of the cinema hall where the incident took place.
In the last month, a Class 10 student from Suanpadia village of Bhubaneshwar was gang raped. The Police arrested two persons in connection with rape of a minor girl who had allegedly committed suicide over alleged police inaction. As per reports, the accused persons have been identified as Nimai Palei (22), the prime accused in the case, and his brother Kedar Palei.
In another similar incident, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped inside a movie theatre in Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh. The police had arrested two people in connection with the case. As per reports by Zee News, the accused had reportedly befriended the girl over the telephone, following which they decided to meet for shopping in Mawana. Soon after the shopping was over, the two went to a cinema hall where they were joined by a friend of the prime accused.
The government on February 1 opposed in the Supreme Court a plea for awarding the death penalty to those convicted of raping minor girls. As per PTI reports, the submission was made by a law officer before a bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud which was hearing a PIL filed in a case relating to the gruesome rape of an eight-month-old baby allegedly by her 28-year-old cousin here. "The death penalty is not the answer to everything," Additional Solicitor General P S Narasimha, appearing for the Centre, said.
