The Election Commission of India on March 10 announced the dates of the Lok Sabha elections 2019. The general elections will be held in seven phases between April 11 and May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23. This time, the EC made mandatory for all candidates who will contest the Lok Sabha elections 2019 to provide PAN card number while filling the nomination papers. The ECI directed candidates to file their PAN details in Form 26 and also of their spouse and dependents. Earlier, many candidates used to skip the PAN details. Not just the candidate, but the new rules will apply to the spouse and members of the Hindu Undivided Family including the dependents. The voters can check income and assets of candidates of their respective constituency on the official website of the EC. They can follow the steps below:
1) Voters need to type www.eci.gov.in in the search engine bar of the browser.
2) Once the site is loaded, they can click on the Menu option, which is on the top left corner of the site.
3) After clicking on the Menu, various options will be displayed. Voters need to click on Candidate affidavits option under subheading - Candidate/Political Parties
4) The link will be opened in a separate tab. Two options will be displayed – Parliament Election and Assembly Election. To view the assets of candidates contesting the Lok Sabha polls, voters need to select an option – Parliament Election.
5) In the first drop-down list, voters can select their state. Meanwhile, in the second drop down of 'Select Election' option, people can select option ‘May-2019 (PC-General).
6) After this, voters need to click on the name of the state. A new tab will be opened displaying the list of constituencies.
7) Click on the name of your constituency. Another tab will be opened, displaying the names of the candidates who are contesting elections from that constituency
8) Select on the Affidavit tab next to the name of candidates to check their income and assets.
Along with the Lok Sabha elections, four states –Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim are also going for assembly polls. With the announcement of election dates, the Model of Conduct has come into place with immediate effect. Voting for the Lok Sabha Polls will take place on both Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as well as VVPAT machines at all polling booths.
