Versova, January 11: A group of workers of Swabhiman Sanghathana on Wednesday night vandalised a restaurant in Mumbai's Versova area. The workers created a ruckus, protesting against the sale of hookah in the restaurant. A video released by ANI show that the workers entered the hookah parlour with Swabhiman Sanghathana flags in their hands. They entered in large numbers and broke all the chairs and tables. The workers were heard saying, “Nahi chalega, nahi chalega’ as they walked in groups inside the hookah parlour. The protest is mainly to curb the menace caused by these illegal establishments.

To recall, the Kamala Mills Fire started from a hookah at Mojo's Bistro and then spread to 1Above. The preliminary investigation report by the Mumbai Fire Brigade stated that the cause of the deadly inferno was the hookah parlour at Mojo Bistro restaurant. The massive fire had engulfed two posh restaurants at Kamala Mills compound on 29 December 2017 and had claimed 14 lives.

After police investigations, the police had questioned officials of the company that supplied hookah to Mojo’s Bistro. Reports further state that the fire department pointed out in its technical report that embers from the illegally served hookah at the resto-bar were possibly behind the blaze that killed 14 people at Kamala Mills compound on December 29. Meanwhile, during interrogation, arrested accused Yug Pathak, co-owner of Mojo’s Bistro and son of retired IPS officer KK Pathak, told the police that they had availed the services of a private person who helped them liaison with various government officials and secure permission from various civic departments.
