Mumbai, July 3: Mumbai witnessed heavy downpour on Monday which intensified on Tuesday morning causing inconvenience to commuters who had to rush to work early in the morning. The rainfall was so intense that water logging was reported from various parts of the city. A part of Gokhale Bridge, connecting Andheri East to West collapsed affecting the overhead wires too. Trains on the western lines have been affected. BMC Fire Brigade as well as RPF Staff and Officers are deputed on spot for support. Traffic above and below the bridge is stopped for now as per the latest updates. Even flight services have been hit as the downpour continues. Heavy rains lashed several parts of Mumbai overnight since Monday evening as some reports said over 90 mm of rainfall was recorded till 5.30 am on Tuesday in some areas. While waterlogging and traffic jams were being reported from some areas like Jogeshwari on Monday evening, the impact remains to be seen on Tuesday morning as Mumbaikars step out for work and it continues to rain.
According to the latest updates coming in, a wall in Thane collapsed due to the heavy downpour. This is the second serious incident after the heavy rainfall and downpour since Monday evening which got intensified on Tuesday morning as well.
