Mumbai, July 15: A high tide measuring 4.97 metres has lashed Mumbai around 1:50 pm today. It is also the highest high tide of the season. The Disaster Management wing of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a warning for fishermen not to venture into the sea around that time.

The body has also issued helpline numbers - 1916 or 101 in case of emergency. They have appealed to people to contact the lifeguards deployed at several beaches in case any help is needed. (Also Read: High Tide Alert Dates In Mumbai)

The highest high tide of the season has hit the Mumbai shore in the afternoon. In the visuals people could be seen enjoying the weather of the city.

The BMC disaster control management had earlier last month issued an advisory saying that this monsoon, there will be 24 high-tide days when the sea level will be above 4.6m in Mumbai.

Yesterday, the maximum city witnessed the second highest high tide of the season measuring 4.96 metres. On Friday, the high tide rose to 4.8 metres. According to media reports around 361 tonnes of garbage was thrown by the sea during the high tides on Friday and Sunday. The Times of India reported that the BMC managed to collect 226 tonnes of the total garbage from just the 10km interconnected stretch of Juhu and Versova. The quantum of waste will increase on Sunday. Keeping this in mind, the BMC has deployed extra men along the seafronts to collect garbage
