Mumbai, July 1: Incessant rains continued to lash Mumbai on Monday causing inconvenience to lakhs of commuters. The heavy downpour in the city and its outskirts inundated low-lying areas, delayed trains and slowed down vehicular movement on roads. Local train services on the Central, Western and Harbour lines were delayed by over 30 minutes during peak hours on Monday. Children were seen wading through water to go to school as streets in Dadar East were flooded due to heavy rainfall. Rains Disrupt Normal Life in Mumbai, Commuters Badly Hit.
According to details on Tide Forcast's website, Mumbai is set to witness two high tides on Monday- one at 11.11 AM on Monday i.e. July 1, 2019 and another high tide at 10.44 PM at night on the same day. The tide height of the one at 11.11 AM was 4.33m (14.21ft), while that of 10.44 PM will be 3.76m (12.34ft). High tides occur due to the gravitational pull between the earth and the moon. Waterlogging and flooding was reported from several areas of Mumbai including Kurla, Dadar, Sion, Bhiwandi, Thane and others due to continuous rainfall since Saturday. Mumbai has been witnessing relentless heavy downpour with many parts of the city expected to continue to see good showers on Monday, according to the weather department.
Railway tracks were submerged between Sion railway station and Matunga railway station following heavy rainfall in parts of Maharashtra. According to private weather forecaster, Skymet Weather, rains in the city are expected to get intense starting the night of July 3 wherein hefty showers will be seen as the weather system which formed in the Bay will move towards the West Coast giving heavy showers.
