Ulhasnagar, May 22: A father killed his son in a quarrel over food in Ulhasnagar on Sunday afternoon. Shantaram Ujjainkar, the accused strangulated his son, Krushna over an argument with his daughter-in-law, Rekha. Ujjainkar wanted to eat elephant yam foot (suran) but Rekha cooked okra (bhindi). It led to a quarrel between Ujjainkar and Rekha.
Krushna took his wife’s side and pushed Ujjainkar aside, this infuriated the accused more, and in anger, he strangulated his son with Rekha’s dupatta, reported Mid-Day. The Ulhasnagar police have arrested the accused. According to the report, Shantaram had a strong dislike for Rekha's cooking and thus, always created a ruckus at lunch and dinner. The family consists of Shantaram Ujjainkar, his son Krushna, daughter-in-law Rekha and two younger brothers.
“On Sunday, the accused wanted to eat suran, but Rekha cooked okra instead. He disliked the food and began hitting Rekha for making it. Krushna jumped in to save his wife and pushed his father aside. When he was consoling her, the father held him, pushed him against the wall and choked him," reported Mid-Day quoting Ulhasnagar police officials as saying.
During the quarrel, Rekha rushed to call the neighbours. Krushna was taken to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. According to DCP Ankit Goel, they've arrested the accused under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
