Parents in Haryana seeking admissions for their children in school are posed with some unexpected questions in the admission forms. Other than the usual religion and caste of an applicant, the form has questions about the parent's occupation, if its "unclean", if the child has any genetic disorder and also importantly the Aadhaar card and bank account details.

The Haryana government has circulated 'Student Admission Form' in schools across the state and it has about 100 questions. These questions have evoked criticism from parents as well as the members of Opposition. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala has asked for the withdrawal of such forms. He asked about Aadhar being mandatory for school admissions. To which Director of Haryana Secondary Education, Rajiv Rattan said it was to avoid any fraud cases of duplicacy. “As of now, there is no case in which any student has been denied admission on the basis of Aadhaar card. If a student doesn’t have Aadhaar number at the time of admission, we can manage her or his Aadhaar card after admission to the school,” Rattan said. You can check the entire school admission form here.

Take a look at the tweet by Congress leader about the form:

The form asking for Aadhar details:

The form was circulated through an email as an attachment which stated that "information being sought is not for the school records but for use by the government of Haryana”. The forms have to be filled and submitted by the parent by April 16. A parent's income and bank details are not facilitators of a child's school admission so they have been objected too. Moreover, it asks if the parents are engaged in unclean jobs! Parents too are not happy about such information being asked in these forms.

A BJP spokesperson Raman Malik, however, finds nothing wrong about these forms, asking information. He said in a report to Indian Express, "What is wrong in asking for such information? Such details are asked to ascertain whether a student requires medical check-up or special attention. Further, there is no harm in asking details about the caste of the students. By such information, the government can know which community is lacking behind in availing education. It will enable the government to take corrective measures."
