Bahraich (UP) April 8: Leopard attacks have increased in the area nearby the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttar Pradesh. Now a grandfather was badly injured after he tried to fight off a leopard. The female leopard was attacking his grandson and in a bid to protect him, the grandfather bravely fought off the wild feline. The leopard is said to have entered their house last night. The grandson has also sustained minor injuries but was well-protected from the leopard. He got an injury on his head. Looking at the grandfather's bravery, he will be considered for Rani Laxmi Bai Award said the forest officer of the region.
Leopard attacks have increased in the area, with another two children were dead in the month of February. A 17-year old was attacked in the Ghasinpurwa village, who lost her life. She had gone to the forest to get some woods when she was attacked by the leopard. Although the girl made some noise to get the villagers, it was too late for her sustain. In a similar incident, an 8-year old was also killed in the attack. The attack took place in the same area surrounding the Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary here. “12 people have lost their lives in man-animal conflict since April 2017,” said Divisional Forest Officer GP Singh.

Recently, a girl named Rupali Mesharam from Maharashtra also made news when she too was fighting off a tiger in her village. She was saving her goat who was attacked by the tiger. The girl's mother was also injured in the attack.
