Mumbai, May 8: The railway authorities have taken strict action against the contractor of Bandra T - Nizamuddin Garib Rath after a video goes viral on social media in which it is clearly seen that a train toilet was used to store drinking water bottles, Frooti and other cold beverages. A fine of Rs 1,00,000 has been imposed on the Contractor.
The video was shot by a disabled passenger named Arshad. The incident occurred on April 26th in the Garib Rath train, plying between Bandra and Nizamuddin. Arshad said that being diabetic, he was forced to use the loo frequently. But since the beverage bottles were stored in the toilet, he faced a lot of inconvenience.
Western Railway has taken up the issue with IRCTC. Apart from levying a heavy fine, a show cause notice has been sent to the contractor for termination of the contract by IRCTC. Western Railway tweeted, “The matter was viewed very seriously and a fine of Rs 1,00,000/- has been imposed on the Contractor of Bandra T - Nizamuddin Garib Rath after WR immediately took up the issue with IRCTC besides taking other remedial actions.”

A team has also been deputed to keep a check on the operations of catering services in the train. Western Railway has assured to have a strict watch on the services provided by the vendors so that this type of incident should not occur in future.

The railway authorities have launched a five-day drive on the western railway to check pantry in all trains so that passengers should get proper quality of food. If any such discrepancy is found in the catering services than it will be reported to the authorities so that remedial actions can be taken immediately, said Western Railway in its tweet.
