New Delhi, September 13: September 14 marks the final day for Aadhaar cardholders to update their details online for free. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) had extended this deadline multiple times, with the most recent extension granted on June 14, following earlier extensions in March and December of last year. Many are now left wondering if another extension will be announced.
Aadhaar cardholders can update specific details online, including their address, by submitting valid Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents. This service is free, provided that the address has not been updated in the last 10 years. However, cardholders must ensure that their Aadhaar is linked to their mobile number, as a One-Time Password (OTP) is required for login and updates. For other updates, such as changes to name, mobile number, or photograph, individuals must visit a UIDAI-authorised centre. - Once the OTP has been entered, users will have to click on ‘Login’.
- Choose the demographic details that the user wants to update (name, address, date of birth, etc.) and fill in the new information accurately.
- Once the necessary changes have been made, users will have to click on ‘Submit’ and upload scanned copies of the required documents.
- In the end, click on ‘Submit Update Request.’ After that, users will receive an Update Request Number (URN) via SMS to track the status of their request
While updating Aadhaar is not mandatory unless required for specific changes, UIDAI recommends that cardholders update their information every 10 years. This helps ensure that their details remain current and prevents any issues when accessing government services or financial schemes. Keeping Aadhaar information up-to-date is crucial for avoiding discrepancies that could affect access to these services.
