On Monday, Supreme Court allowed an influential Karnataka politician's daughter to break free from matrimonial and parental ties and do whatever she wants in her life. According to a Times of India report, the girl was forced into marriage against her wish and was made to separate from her lover. She was physically, and mentally tortured by her parents and brother.

The wedding took place, in spite of complaining to the police and conveying to the groom that she didn't want to settle down with him. Within hours of moving the SC while under the care of the Delhi Commission for Women, she was given Delhi Police protection.

The girl expressed her interest in returning to Bengaluru and pursuing her masters in engineering, but feared tyrannical action from her parents and husband's family. The Supreme Court bench ordered that she can go to any places she desires. Parents or any family member cannot create any obstacle in the path of the woman.

The bench, however, dismissed the girl's lawyer's argument that Supreme Court must declare the marriage as 'null and void' since it was against her consent. The apex court highlighted that for this, she needs to move to the family court first and initiate the proceedings.
