Bengaluru, April 17: An First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Congress’ Karnataka Working President Dinesh Gundu Rao, on Tuesday. The FIR was filed for his ‘offensive’ remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath during a protest meeting on April 15. The following FIR comes after a complaint with the Election Commission was registered by Karnataka BJP General Secretary N Ravikumar, on Sunday.
Talking to the media Dinesh Rao had said, “Mr Adityanath is a disgrace to Indian politics, and he is unfit to be the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. If he had any decency he would have resigned by now because his government has been exposed, his own MLA has committed the crime.”
As per an Outlook India report, Rao had said, “This man from Uttar Pradesh who comes to Karnataka to deliver lectures is not a yogi. He is a hypocrite, a liar and a thug. He should not be allowed to enter Karnataka. If he comes to Karnataka, he should be beaten up with slippers and sent back.”
Karnataka Assembly Elections are around the corner, and such statements are nothing new to ears. In another low, the Congress Working President had said that people should hit UP CM Yogi Adityanath with slippers whenever he visits to the state (of Karnataka). The comments about Adityanath didn’t go down well with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members, as they took to streets to protest against Dinesh Rao.
Earlier, hours after he made derogatory remarks against UP CM Adityanath, Dinesh Rao had apologised for the same. Rao had said that it was an emotional outburst and the (Unnao) rape case is a sensitive issue for me.
However, his apology came with another stinging question to Yogi’s governance in UP. He had said, “The father of Unnao victim has died, the girl is threatening to immolate herself. What kind of governance is this? I, however, regret the kind of words I used for him (Adityanath). This is an emotional and sensitive issue for me.”
With the election date nearing, it will be interesting to see how political parties, especially the Congress and BJP, fire verbal salvos at each other! Karnataka Assembly Polls 2018 will take place in a single phase manner on May 12. The results of all the 224 constituencies going to poll in Karnataka Elections will be declared on May 15.
