Thiruvananthapuram, April 1: In what could have turned to be a fatal incident, dramatic visuals of elephants running were captured during Aarattu Festival in Kerala. The elephants ran in speed causing panic among devotees during the celebration of Festival in Thiruvananthapuram earlier today. Reports state that the incident happened near Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple.
In the video that went viral, elephants ran on the streets after getting scared at the noise of fire crackers. The incident happened when the elephants were accompanying the temple procession from the West Fort towards Enchakkal.
The other two elephants, who accompanied the procession also tried to run away looking at the scared Mahadevan, their mahouts' timely intervention calmed them down.

As per reports by Kaumudiglobal.com, the elephant named Puthuppally Mahadevan ran amok getting scared at the noise of firecrackers. No casualties or other damages have been reported. The crowd ran behind Mahadevan who ran towards Chembakamangalam, and they managed to calm down the scared animal.
It must be noted that Arattu which is the Holy Bath is a part of the rituals of the festivals of most of the major temples of Kerala. In this ritual, the priest takes the Deity form of the god with him and takes a bath in Holy Water. This is mainly carried out at the end of the Festival of the temple. One of the important Arattu in Kerala is conducted at Padmanabhaswamy Temple, Trivandrum by Travancore royal family.
