New Delhi, March 12: A late night joy-ride turned tragic as two college students died and three were injured after a 19-year-old student named Diksha Dadu, driving under the influence of alcohol, rammed into a traffic pole. The incident happened at Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar on Sunday.

According to police, the accident took place around 3 am. There were five students in the car, three girls and two boys. The airbags of the car, a Hyundai i20, came active after the crash and saved the two girls in the front seats from serious injuries. But the girl sitting in the rear seat sustained serious injuries whereas the two boys seated behind were killed on impact in the unfortunate event.

The names of the victims who were killed in the accident were identified as Siddharth Singh and Ritesh Dahiya. The boys were 20 and 21-years-old respectively. Hindustan Times report mentioned that Siddharth was a student of Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology in Janakpuri and Ritesh was studying in Delhi University's Sri Venkateswara College.

According to the report in Hindustan Times, Dadu,19, was driving the car and returning from a late night party with her four friends and crashed the vehicle into a traffic signal pole in the dead of the night. The three girls injured in the accident were law students from Amity University in Noida. The report mentions that police found alcohol bottles and plastic cups from inside the car and said that drunk driving was the reason for the crash.

The accident took place around 3 am and all the students were taken to a nearby hospital after the crash. The doctors announced Siddharth and Dahiya as brought dead upon arrival and the three girls are currently undergoing treatment.

This incident once again proves the danger involved in driving after drinking. The police in metros, especially Delhi and Mumbai have been implementing strict measures to check drunken driving but there is little that can be done to control it if citizens do not adhere to rules and remain negligent of the danger involved.
