New Delhi, April 10: The Delhi police has filed a charge sheet against the Indian Air Force’s Group Captain Arun Marwaha. The Indian Air Force officer was arrested by the Delhi Police on the charges of revealing confidential information to Pakistan’s Inter-services Intelligence in February.
Group captain Marwaha was commissioned into the Indian air Force in 1984. He was active on social media. Group Captain Marwaha used to post pictures of his work in the Indian Air Force and family gatherings. Seven months back he received friend request from two friend requests on facebook.
These Facebook IDs were created by the ISI. The Facebook IDs were in the name of Kiran Randhawa and Mahima Patel. Initially interaction which was limited only to likes and comments on the pictures later went on to chatting. Group Captain Marwaha was lured into illicit chats, which later was used a tool to blackmail him to reveal secrets of the Indian Air Force.
According to media reports three documents pertaining to Defence Cyber Agency, Defence Space Agency and Special Operations were given to ISI using WhatsApp. In mid-January, He was put under surveillance after The Indian Air Force's counter intelligence came to know about it. Marwaha was detained on January 31 and was handed over to Delhi Police where he was placed under arrest under Official Secrets Act.
Group Captain Marwaha is not the first case of digital honeytrap. In 2015 an IAF personnel was arrested from Bhatinda was arrested on the charges of passing classified information to ISI.
