According to a report in The Times of India, the open forest cover in the Aravali Hills has fast been on decline. The report says that the loss has been massive in the last 30 years. The scrub has gone up by 5.7 per cent which has made the forest almost barren and leaves very little moisture in the air, said NHRC in its statement.
The NHRC has said that instant action needs to be taken to stop deforestation and degradation of Aravali Hills in order to protect the health of the people living in the Delhi-NCR region. Delhi and other northern states had experienced grave and intense dust storms in the last few weeks which had caused loss of lives and property.
