Dalit Groom in Gujarat Seeks Police Protection to Reach Bride's House on a Horse
Police personnel were deployed at the village and the marriage procession was held under police protection. The Mansa police confirming the incident and said that no FIR has been registered in connection with the threat issued to the wedding party.
Gandhinagar, June 18: After being threatened by locals of the upper caste community, a Dalit youth got married under police protection at Parsa village in Gujarat on Sunday. The wedding took place in Mansa taluka in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar district. According to report by Indian Express, some locals of the upper-caste Darbar community objected to the groom riding a horse and said he would face consequences if he does so. The incident surfaced a day after Gujarat DGP stated that Dalits are safe in Gujarat.
Prashant Solanki, a resident of Mehsana town was scheduled to tie the knot with Varsha Parmar. Police personnel were deployed at the village and the marriage procession was held under police protection. The Mansa police confirming the incident and said that no FIR has been registered in connection with the threat issued to the wedding party.
The youth, after reaching close to the village in a car was to go the bride’s house on a horse. He sat on the horse along with a DJ team accompanying him. According to reports, soon after they reached the village, few villagers belonging to the Darbar community, threatened the person who had brought the horse.
The report further quoted the groom’s brother Vipul Solanki saying that they threatened the groom saying that he cannot ride a horse because it is something which only courageous men like Darbars can do.
According to details by Raju Patel, sarpanch of Parsa village, some miscreants from the village belonging to Darbar community had threatened the wedding party but police reached the spot, and everything was in control. He informed that after being threatened by miscreants, the person who had brought the horse with him ran away from the village. It was the sarpanch who arranged two horses for the groom and the procession was carried out with him riding a horse.
