Counterfeit HUL Products: 7 Arrested in Mumbai For Selling Fake Pond's Face Cream & Lakme Eyeliner

Reportedly, the accused claimed in court that they did not know each other and were not involved in any offences like- copyright infringement, cheating and forgery, as claimed by HUL.

Mumbai, May 21: The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested seven people for allegedly selling counterfeit products using the name of Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL). According to a report on Indian Express, HUL had filed a notice alleging that fake products of Ponds face cream and Lakme eyeliner, were being sold in the market.

To crack the case, the MNC had employed a private security firm to probe the matter. They had submitted a few samples of the counterfeit goods, and when tested by HUL, the products were found to be fake. The cosmetics were seized from five locations across the state.

According to the report, the accused are identified as Abdul Wahab Sayyad, Rajesh Desai, Ramdas Rahate, Nitin Pore, Kishor Tamanekar , Raghu Patil and Abudullah Farooq Ansari. They were produced in court on Sunday and remanded to police custody till May 23.
