Mumbai, May 25: The newly appointed Karnataka state Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy will table confidence motion in the state legislative assembly at Vidhana Souda, Bengaluru today. The floor test is to prove his party majority. The first session of the newly constituted 15th assembly of the state has been convened at 12.15 p.m, during which, Kumaraswamy will table the proposal in front of the speaker.

The proposal needs the backing of 112 legislators which Congress-JD(S) post-poll coalition claims they have with them. A significant political turmoil was observed in past few days, and BS Yeddyurappa led-BJP government quit after they were unable to prove their majority; the BJP had 104 legislators and emerged as the single largest party, however, with eight MLAs less, it failed to continue its government.

Over the last-minute partnership of Congress-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition, the BJP party slammed both for insulting the democracy and not accepting people's mandate, remarking that as they got more MLAs as compared to any other political party. Therefore, BJP would have allowed forming the government, despite this, Congress retained the powers in the state by extending their support to JD(S). Also to keep the pact intact, it gave powers to JD(S) to allow its party candidate to be the CM, while Congress kept the deputy CM and speaker post.

Sources said after proving the majority in the floor test today, both the party leaders will decide on power-sharing. According to earlier reports, JD(S) might get 12 to 13 ministries while Congress will keep 22 ministry portfolios with them. Meanwhile, sources also said that Congress would keep all essential departments like finance, revenue, home, power with them. Therefore in future, clashes on who will get important ministries might create tension among the party legislators.

Meanwhile, besides the floor test, the election of the speaker and deputy speaker is also scheduled to take place today. The BJP who quit from government's race has decided to field their candidate for speaker's election. BJP has fielded senior leader S Suresh Kumar as its candidate, while the Congress-JD(S) has unanimously chosen Ramesh Kumar as their candidate for the speaker's post.
