Guwahati, Mar 24: A class 5 student in Assam was allegedly gang-raped and set on fire by the same accused. The incident was reported from Nagaon district on Friday.

The victim, who sustained 90 per cent injuries, recorded her statement to the police before her death. In the dying declaration, she named three boys - who were known to her - for perpetrating the vicious assault.

The two accused among the trio were reported to be minors, whereas, the third was identified as Zakir Hussain.

While the two juveniles have been arrested, a search operation has been launched by the Nagaon police to nab Hussain.

Speaking to reporters, Superintendent of Police Shankar Raimedhi said the girl was gang-raped at her home in Lalungaon village.

"The three accused barged into her house, raped her, poured kerosene and set her ablaze," the Nagaon SP said.

A total of seven places have been raided so far to nab the accused, the police said, assuring that the trio would be arrested shortly.

The incident comes days after a 35-year-old woman in Nagaon district was gang-raped by eight men on March 17.

The victim and her husband were lured to a secluded place by one of the accused, who met them on the local train. His associates had subsequently tied the husband to a tree and raped her throughout the night.

The incident drew uproar in Nagaon, with the local MLA demanding the state government to take stringent action towards reinforcing law and order in the district.

The eight accused were arrested earlier in the week.
